Dear MSILSF Endurance Racers,
I've been thinking about an encore to The Real Cannonball, and there really isn't one -- unless we decide to race the Yungas. So perhaps we should give some serious thought to racing with Bill Murar's "Loopers" in 2014?
The Lake Erie Loop, save for The Real Cannonball, is the most extreme annual motorcycle/motor-scooter endurance race in the world. The website is at www.lakeerieloop.com/. I don't remember how to join the lakeerieloop@yahoogroups.com, but I'm asking Bill to reply to all of you exactly how to sign up for their principal means of comms.
I've included Bill's blog about his "Loopers" participating in The Real Cannonball at www.therealcannonball.org/. MSILSF has provided the "Loopers" with a Message Board on The Real Cannonball forum at therealcannonball.proboards.com/i....play&thread=18, and we'd like to see more blogging from them. Their designated charity is an extremely worthy one.
So, unless some MSILSF racer pitches a legitimate bitch why we shouldn't run the "Loop" in 2014 as our principal (only?) extreme endurance event, let's get aboard with some long-range planning. We can learn much from the "Loopers" who are, in my opinion, the most seasoned small-bore motorcycle/motor-scooter endurance racers in the world. Period! 650 miles WFO!
Your candid comments are always welcome.
Sincerely,
Alan

Subject: [lakeerieloop] Class III
Gentlemen,
I've been looking at Class III since I acquired my Gilera Runner 175.8cc liquid-cooled 2-stroke motor-scooter a couple of months ago, thinking after The Real Cannonball I might enter the Loop in 2014. The 2010, 2011, and 2012 results aren't posted, but the 2005 through 2009 results puts Ernie Copper's '72 Honda CB175 4-stroke way ahead of the game. He must be one helluva rider, and his Honda must go like a bat outta Hell to beat the second best time over the four year period by an hour and three seconds!
1. A mere eleven seconds separate the 2005 (Rich Beaman 12:22) and 2009 (Eric Bechtol 12:11) Class III winners! This is extremely tight racing, and truly amazing after 650 miles!
2. The fastest time from 2005 to 2009 was Ernie Copper in 2007: 10:19! Stunning time! Approximately 63 mph average!
3. The fastest over-all time in 2006 was John McElfresh: 17:42. What happened? Breakdown? Bad weather?
4. The fastest over-all time in 2009 was Dave Rittner (Class II bike): 11:16
What happened in 2010, 2011, and 2012 in Class III?
Will someone please be kind enuf to splain all this to me? Thanx.

CLASS III RESULTS:
2005: Rich Beaman 1974 Honda CB200 12:22
2006: John McElfresh 1974 Honda CB200T, 198cc - Best over-all time: 17:42
2007: Ernie Copper - 1972 Honda CB175, 200cc - 10:19
2008: John McElfresh - 1972 Yamaha CS5 - 11:28
2009: Eric Bechtol - 12:11 (55 min. behind Dave Rittner)
